Thomas Milliner is a member of the prestigious New England Milliner family.  He was clearly Giovanni material from even an early age, although not in the typical Milliner fashion.  He lacked the typical penchant for finances which had originally caught the eye of the Giovanni, but instead he shared the main familys interest in death.  He would watch in fascination as slugs shriveled and died in response to the salt he poured on them.  He reveled in biology when it was time to dissect worms and frogs.  He majored in biology and took all the gross anatomy classes offered as well as all the forensic classes that were offered (which weren't all that many due to the still relative newness of the field)  He received his proxy kiss his sophomore year of college.  Had he been born of true Giovanni blood he would have been begun on that path much sooner, however his 'obsession' put off a few of the Milliner elders, so they hesitated and him-hawed about embracing Thomas.  Thomas had known of his familys legacy for some time and anticipated the day when he would truly be able to begin his studies in the nature of death and dying.  Due to some of the closest elders to him by blood being a bit hesitant to start the process of inducting him into unlife, Thomas went to some more a distant Milliner elder to plead his case.  As fate would have it, the elder he went to was planning to make a trip to Italy for the April 4th celebration that year, and told Thomas that he could accompany him and they would let the single bloods decide his fate.  So Thomas appeared in front of Diego himself and pled his case as to why he was worthy of being a double-blood.  It was decided that that year, Thomas would receive his Proxy kiss and the next year if he had shown himself worthy the honor of being a Giovanni, he would be embraced.  Thomas came back to New England, and began volunteering at the local hospitals in the ERs, critical care units, and morgues.  He studied the fast violent deaths of gang members and druggies, the drawn out pain filled deaths of cancer victims and terminally ill.  As well as gaining first hand knowledge of what happens to the body immediately following death.  He worked the late night shift, because although he could still tolerate the daylight, there were fewer people working at the hospitals at night, thus fewer people around to ask questions about Thomas's looking through patients' files, and data, as well as poking into patients themselves....although he limited this to the already deceased except in the most interesting of cases.  All the information he collected and the research he did on the processes of dying and  events of the body shortly after death, he comprised into well laid out journals and sent them back to Italy to serve as progress reports.  That following April, Thomas once again made the trek to Italy and appeared before Diego.  To Thomas's surprise, the two Milliner elders who had elected not to bring Thomas into the family were also there.  Thomas didn't question this, and was overjoyed at Diegos decision to bring him into the family.  Diego even had one of his own great grandchilder embrace Thomas; quite an honor for one who should have been double blood.  Thomas felt for the first time the true pain of the Giovannis kiss...yet he relished every moment of it.  He analyzed every painful sensation he felt as his body died....and the glorious burning he felt as that most precious of fluids trickled past his parched lips.  Upon rising in his new unlife, he was presented with his two closest elders, bound to the lavishly carved chairs of the Giovannis main house, and given a choice; feed or die Final Death.  It took but a second for Thomas to decide.  He looked at the two terrified elders and said "You tried to keep my unlife from me, now I shall take your unlife from you and with that, he plunged his newly acquired fangs into the throat of the elder who had been most vocal in opposition.  Thomas sucked the elder dry, all the while mentally noting what occurred physically to the elder (he would compile all the events of the night for scientific posterity). After drawing every last drop of precious vitae from the 1st elder, Thomas  found himself still not sated.  He looked to the second bound elder, and then to Diego, who nodded, indicating that it Thomas was permitted to drink again.  Thomas still thinks back on that first night of his unlife with humble adoration.  That he was chosen to be embraced, and given elder double blood to be his first taste of vitae.

Ever since that night just over 100 years ago Thomas, has been traveling around, working as an orderly, assistant, or security agent at hospitals all along the east coast of the US.   He recently has begun showing an interest in freshly buried corpses as well.  In his pursuit of death and dying, Thomas has found that hospitals get rid of bodies too quickly to study them and the processes of decay that occur to the fullest.  The hospitals hand the bodies over to funeral parlors or crematories.  So Thomas has now begun becoming a bit of a grave digger as well, although he is exasperated by the use of embalming agents, which artificially alter the way the bodies decompose.  Thomas is still recording the data he finds, but he is also planning to do more controlled studies, by getting bodies that have not been embalmed first and thus being able to get more natural results.  He is still in the planning stages however.
